WSFEE is thrilled to help enhance social and emotional learning by funding a grant which allows for every 5th grader at Field Park, Forest Hills, and Laidlaw to go see the movie WONDER together on November 17th.
Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of a boy named August who was born with facial differences that previously had prevented him from going to mainstream school. August enters 5th grade at the local school and becomes an unlikely hero. His family, new classmates, and the community come together as they struggle to discover their acceptance and compassion for Auggie’s differences that prove that you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.
After attending the movie, each 5th grade class will participate in follow up activities and discussions centered around social awareness, empathy, and acceptance.
